Northwestern Student Serves in Bahrain

When Carrie Manifold, a junior at Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa, decided to take part in the college's Summer of Service (SOS) program, she never thought she'd be going to Bahrain.

"I thought I'd go to Africa, or maybe Bosnia. Then I started seeing things about Bahrain all over," she said. "It's such a tiny country, but it was all over our campus." Bahrain is an island country in the Persian Gulf, located off the coast of Saudi Arabia. Manifold learned about American Mission Hospital in the capital city of Manama, and felt God leading her to spend the summer there.

From Drugs to Dreams: Transforming a Neighborhood

A residential home in the Quad Cities area was transformed from a drug house into a dream house, thanks to the efforts of volunteers from Christ's Family Church (RCA) in Davenport, Iowa.

In April, the church joined efforts with Rebuilding Together Quad Cities, an organization that focuses on fixing up houses within the Quad Cities--Davenport and Bettendorf, Iowa, and Moline and Rock Island, Illinois--to make them habitable for families who are unable to afford repairs.

Due to the efforts of about 30 people from Christ's Family Church, a home that was formerly a fixture on the drug scene and was also used as a brothel now houses a family. "I was so encouraged by how God could use a group of people to bring hope," says Tim Truesdell, one of the pastors of Christ's Family Church.
