The opportunity

Goodness Grows is a faith-based non-profit organization that has grown out of a commitment to work creatively with community groups, congregations, workplaces, and individuals to help families grow their way out of hunger and poverty. Goodness Grows brings about social and economic change through agricultural leadership and training. They want to empower people to create a healthier, more self-sustaining, and economically viable community for future generations in the Mahoning Valley. They also strive to create opportunities for people with disabilities by offering summer internships and seasonal work in an integrated setting and by serving as a job training site for local classrooms during the school year.

Key Scripture: “The earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof.” (Psalm 24:1, KJV)

Volunteer quote: “It was an eye-opening experience working closely with the people involved with Goodness Grows. So many good lessons and information to put into practice every day. What a wonderful way to do a ministry. People are connected through basic needs and filling those needs with the ability to do agriculture. This model may serve us as we look towards ministering in our own area. It may not be agriculture, but the model works and will be great for current and future endeavors.” —Nick Armstrong, Beverly Reformed Church
