General Synod Recommends Assigning Mentors to Students under Care

On Saturday, June 10, General Synod approved recommendations that classes assign mentors to students under their care and that the GSC develop a list of women in church leadership roles who can mentor RCA women.

These recommendations were brought before the General Synod by the Commission for Women. The commission made the recommendations based on the results of a clergy survey it conducted.

The General Synod also approved recommendations from the Commission for Women to:

• Assign women to worship leadership roles for General Synod 2018.
• Encourage classes to send women as voting delegates to regional and General Synod meetings and to be more intentional about presenting women in leadership roles in RCA churches and camps.
• Urge classes and regional synod to ensure that the conscience clause has been removed from their bylaws, literature, and electronic media, in accordance with the Book of Church Order.
