Founded in 1986, Sahel Academy is a K-12 English-language, internationally accredited Christian school that primarily exists to meet the educational needs of mission coworker families serving in West Africa. The RCA currently has two mission coworker families with children at Sahel Academy. Sahel Academy has more than 180 students from 23 nations, including some English-speaking non-believers from Niamey’s international community.
Every year Sahel Academy has openings for K-12 instructors and for teachers’ aides for the younger grades (K-2). Sahel also strives to provide instruction in Bible, French, vocational training, art, dance, music (including piano and band instruments), Spanish (or another elective language), and other electives. Those who have experience teaching English as a second language or working with special-needs students are especially needed. This is a single- or multi-year commitment. All commitments span the academic year, which runs from August to the first week of June.

RCA mission coworkers in Niger will assist in finding available housing for volunteers. Mission coworker families who go off-campus for a semester or two will often open their homes for volunteers to house-sit.
The Volunteer Engagement team will help individuals determine the cost of their specific trip based on dates and activities. Individuals will need to raise support to cover costs.

Teaching certificates are strongly desired, but not necessary for every position. Knowledge of French is useful for living in Niamey, but not required for working at the school.
